I have been a research associate at the Center since 2014. In 2021, I received a second appointment at the University as an administrative assistant at the Karl Dedecius Foundation. With these two appointments I conduct a sociolinguistic and structural research of the Polish language in the context of social inclusion and neutralization of language, especially with respect to gender. I coordinate Polish-German cultural projects, especially in the context of literary exchange. I also teach and supervise students with interest in Slavic linguistics.
I received my Ph.D. degree in Slavic languages and literatures from the University of California in Berkley in 2015, where I studied, researched, and taught for seven years in the Slavic Department under the supervision of prof. Johanna Nichols and prof. Darya Kavitskaya. My dissertation research evolved around the development and use of secondary predication in Polish.
My fascination with languages began already in high school where I, where my final state exam consisted of only languages, unheard by then in the history of my heavy on science high school. This led me to study Classics at the University of Poznań, where I concentrated on Ancient Greek, graduating with honors with a Master degree in 2004. I continued the study of languages at the University of Tuebingen (Germany) and University of California, Berkeley (USA), gaining again two Master degrees in West Slavic Studies and General Linguistics.
Since I have arrived at the Polish-German melting pot at the border, my very narrow interest in Polish syntax has been widened and included more general questions of language development due to social changes and revolutions, as well as non-parallel changes among close language communities. This is especially visible in the gender neutrality and inclusion in a language, which develops very differently in Poland and Germany. This is what I currently study.
